1. Who we are
The Gift of Knowledge Foundation (“we”, “us”) is responsible for the personal information described in this policy (the “controller” under the UK GDPR). We build and run tuition-free educational institutions. Our administrative headquarters is in the United Kingdom and our current operational annex is in Nigeria.
- United Kingdom (administrative headquarters): 10 Northampton Rd, Monsall, Manchester
- Nigeria (operational annex): 50 Wilmer Crescent, Apapa, Lagos
- Email: [email protected]
2. What we collect, and why
We collect only what is needed for the purpose shown. This website does not take payments.
| When | What | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You use the contact form | Your name, organisation (optional), email address, area of inquiry and message | To read and answer your message |
| You send a volunteer application | Your first and last name, email address, phone number (optional), city or location, role of interest, availability, how you heard about us, and what you tell us about yourself | To consider your application and get in touch with you |
| You send any form | Your IP address, browser details and the date and time | To stop spam and abuse, including limiting how many messages one address can send in an hour |
| You visit any page | Standard server records kept by our hosting provider (IP address, page requested, date and time) | To keep the site secure and working |
We do not use your details for advertising and we do not sell personal information.
3. Our legal bases
- Legitimate interests: replying to enquiries, considering volunteer applications (and taking steps you ask for before any volunteering arrangement), and keeping the site secure and free of spam. We have weighed this against your rights and expect these uses to be what you would anticipate when you send us a message.
- Legal obligation: where the law requires us to keep or share information.
Where Nigerian law applies to our work in Nigeria, we also follow the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
4. Who we share it with
- Our team and volunteers who handle enquiries and applications, in the United Kingdom and in Nigeria.
- Our hosting and email provider, which stores the website, its database and our mailboxes on our behalf and only on our instructions.
- Anyone the law requires us to disclose information to.
Fonts, icons, styles and scripts are all served from our own server, so simply viewing our pages does not send your details to an outside font or library provider.
5. Transfers outside the UK
Our team works from both the United Kingdom and Nigeria, so your details may be seen in either country. When information is sent to or accessed from a country outside the UK, we only do so where the law allows and we take steps to give it equivalent protection.
6. How long we keep it
- Enquiries and applications (including the IP address and browser details saved with them): deleted automatically after 24 months.
- Technical logs that help us fix faults: deleted after 12 months.
You can ask us to delete your information sooner (see “Your rights”).
7. Cookies and similar technologies

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. We do not run analytics on this site, so there is nothing for you to accept or reject. You can also delete or block cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work.
8. Keeping your information safe
- The site is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection.
- Messages are kept in a protected database and our mailboxes; access is limited to people who need it.
- The administration area needs a password, limits repeated failed sign-ins and signs people out when idle. Passwords are stored in scrambled (hashed) form only.
9. Your rights
You can ask us to:
- tell you what we hold about you and give you a copy;
- correct anything that is wrong;
- delete your information;
- limit how we use it, or object to a use based on legitimate interests;
- give you your information in a portable format;
We make no decisions about you by automated means. To use any of these rights, email [email protected]. We will reply within one month.
10. Complaints
We would like the chance to put things right first, so please contact us. You also have the right to complain to the regulator:
- United Kingdom: the Information Commissioner’s Office, ico.org.uk, telephone 0303 123 1113.
- Nigeria: the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, ndpc.gov.ng.
11. Children
Our website is not aimed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before you send us personal information.
12. Links to other websites
Our pages may link to other websites. We are not responsible for how they use your information, so please read their policies.
13. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of the page. For significant changes we will say so on the website.
